The Merced community is grieving the devastating loss of 16-year-old Davarion Granados, whose life was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence Wednesday night. Davarion, a bright and beloved teenager, was shot near the apartment complex on U and Fourth Streets, a place meant to be his safe haven. His passing has left family, friends, and neighbors struggling to comprehend the heartbreak of losing someone so young, vibrant, and full of promise.
According to his mother, Maria Granados, Davarion had been on the phone with his father just moments before the shooting. As he was nearing home, he told his father, “I’m coming up by the trash can,” but before he could make it inside, gunshots rang out. “It was anywhere from 10–16 shots,” Maria said. “While he was talking to his dad over the phone, his dad heard gunshots. He didn’t hear nothing else after that.”

Just after 9:30 p.m., Merced police responded to the scene following multiple 911 calls, where they found Davarion suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate efforts to save him, Davarion was pronounced dead at the scene, a vibrant life full of potential extinguished too soon.
