Miami-Dade Deputy Devin Jaramillo Tragically Killed While Responding to Traffic Crash
The Miami-Dade community is mourning the tragic loss of 27-year-old Deputy Devin Jaramillo, who was fatally shot while responding to a routine traffic accident in the Kendall area on Friday afternoon. At approximately 3:53 p.m., deputies were called to the scene at the intersection of SW 122nd Avenue and SW 128th Street. When Deputy Jaramillo arrived, he became involved in an altercation with an individual at the scene. During the struggle, Deputy Jaramillo was shot and later succumbed to his injuries. The suspect involved was found dead at the scene, and a second individual has been detained for questioning.

Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz expressed deep sorrow, calling the attack “brutal” and underscoring the senseless loss of a dedicated officer. “He’s not only a deputy, he’s a son, he’s a brother, and he is a friend… what happened to our deputy is not okay,” she said, highlighting the devastating impact of the tragedy on both the department and the community.

SUPPORT THE FAMILY - GOD BLESS YOU

Deputy Jaramillo’s career was marked by commitment and dedication. He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and corrections from the University of Central Florida and interned with the FBI. His career included nearly four years of service with the Coral Gables Police Department, where he was recognized as “Officer of the Month” in July 2023. In May 2024, he joined the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, where his promising career was tragically cut short.

First responders from across South Florida gathered at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital after the shooting, paying their respects as Jaramillo was transported. A motorcade later escorted his body, with fire rescue trucks holding a massive American flag as uniformed officers lined the streets, while the grieving community gathered along Bird Road to honor his memory.

Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava extended condolences to Deputy Jaramillo’s family and colleagues, stating, “Our entire community stands with this brave officer, his family and fellow deputies, and all our men and women in uniform who put themselves at risk to protect our community.”

As the investigation continues, the community is reflecting on Deputy Jaramillo’s legacy of courage, service, and kindness. Though his life was tragically cut short, his memory will remain a beacon of dedication and sacrifice. Rest in peace, Deputy Jaramillo.
