A Midvale neighborhood is mourning after police discovered the bodies of Eilleen R. Lyon, 65, and her husband, Terry W. Lyon, 63, inside their home Tuesday morning in what investigators are calling a suspected murder-suicide.

Discovery of the Tragedy
According to Sgt. Aymee Race with the Unified Police Department (UPD), officers were dispatched around 11:13 a.m. for a welfare check at a residence near 7500 South Jefferson Street. Upon entering the home, deputies found the couple deceased.
Detectives believe that Terry Lyon fatally shot his wife before turning the gun on himself. The UPD Violent Crimes Unit is handling the investigation. Authorities noted there had been no prior reports of domestic violence at the home.
Community in Shock
Neighbors and friends described the Lyons as well-known and deeply loved members of the Midvale community. Eilleen, who lived at 7533 Jefferson Street, was remembered as a devoted sister, cherished friend, loving aunty, and kind neighbor.
“It’s hard to understand. They were such a part of the fabric of this community,” one neighbor shared. “Eilleen was always smiling and always willing to help others. It’s just devastating.”
Police Response and Safety Assurances
Investigators remained on scene for several hours Tuesday, gathering evidence and notifying family members. Sgt. Race stressed that the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
“This remains an active investigation,” Sgt. Race said. “Additional details will be released when appropriate.”
