Milwaukee is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Deon “Mister” Sargent, an 11-year-old whose bright smile, love for football, and joyful dance moves made him the life of every room. Police say Sargent was shot and killed Tuesday night during a robbery near 68th Street and Silver Spring Drive.

Authorities confirmed that a 13-year-old has been arrested in connection with the shooting, though investigators are still working to determine the exact circumstances.
For Sargent’s family, the pain is overwhelming — not only because of his young age but because tragedy has struck them twice in six months. In March, Sargent’s aunt, Brenisha, was fatally shot outside a bar, an incident in which his mother was also injured.
“This right here shouldn’t happen. Kids should not be playing with guns at all,” said cousin Canience Haynes, recalling Sargent as the one who would light up family barbecues and gatherings with his dancing. “He’s the one we call at the family gatherings, at the barbecues, at whatever event we at. He’s going to dance.”
Sargent’s passion for performing was rivaled only by his dedication to football. He played for the CLE Panthers Youth Football team, where coaches say he quickly became a standout leader.
“He was a team leader. He was one of my team captains his first year, and he motivated the whole team,” said Corey Collins, Sargent’s coach. “He was with us for three years.”
Coach Derricka Wesley said Sargent’s personality left an indelible mark: “He just always wanted to show up and show out. He was that type of kid, and he is going to be missed dearly.”
Family and friends remember Sargent not only for his skills on the field but also for his energy on TikTok and at family gatherings, where his dancing brought joy to everyone around him.
