HAVRE, Mont. – The desperate multi-state search for Sarah Nylander (Brandt), the Havre woman reported missing while driving to Meridian, Idaho, has ended with the worst possible news: authorities confirmed Wednesday that Sarah has been found deceased.
Sarah was last heard from Sunday morning when she texted family that she had nearly struck deer on the highway and was continuing her drive west in her red 2020 Volkswagen Atlas SUV. When all communication suddenly stopped, loved ones immediately raised the alarm, triggering a coordinated search across Montana, Idaho, and surrounding states.

Law enforcement agencies, aided by hundreds of shares on social media, had been actively looking for any sign of Sarah or her distinctive red SUV. Late Tuesday, investigators located the vehicle and confirmed Sarah’s death. At the family’s request, no details about the location or circumstances have been released.
In a brief statement, the family wrote:
“With broken hearts we share that our beloved Sarah has been found and is no longer with us. Thank you to everyone who searched, shared, and prayed. Please respect our privacy as we grieve.”
