Authorities are investigating a deadly accident along the Mon Repos Public Road, East Coast Demerara, that claimed the life of a male pedestrian in the early hours of Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the crash happened around 12:20 a.m. when a white motor car, PAC 9262—driven by a 26-year-old Police Lance Corporal attached to the Ogle Police Outpost—struck the pedestrian. The victim, known only as “Soath,” was attempting to cross the road when the collision occurred. His full identity has not yet been confirmed.

Preliminary findings reveal the car was heading west along the northern lane of the southern carriageway when the man suddenly ran across its path. The left front of the vehicle struck him, causing severe injuries. Emergency responders rushed him to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, but despite doctors’ efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
His body is currently at the hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
Driver in Custody
Police confirmed that the Lance Corporal was given a breathalyzer test, which returned negative for alcohol. However, he has been placed under close arrest while the investigation continues. Investigators are reviewing statements, eyewitness accounts, and any available surveillance footage from the area.
