The North Carolina Highway Patrol has identified the motorcyclist who died in a crash Friday morning on U.S. 25 as 25-year-old Ryan Emery Neill of Henderson County.
Troopers said the collision occurred at approximately 10:59 a.m. when a black Honda motorcycle traveling north on U.S. 25 struck a silver Volkswagen passenger car. Investigators reported that the Volkswagen had just exited the parking lot of Planet Fitness and was attempting to merge into the northbound lanes when the impact occurred in the left lane.

Neill was transported to Mission Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, authorities said.
As of now, no charges have been filed in connection with the crash. The North Carolina Highway Patrol said its investigation into the incident is ongoing.
