A serious crash in southern Plymouth County on Saturday afternoon left several members of the Remsen St. Mary’s girls basketball team and their coaches injured. The collision occurred at the intersection of Highway 75 and County Road C-80 when an SUV collided with the team’s activities bus, which was returning from a scrimmage in Dakota Dunes.
The Sioux City Catholic Diocese confirmed that the Remsen St. Mary’s team was on board the bus at the time of the crash. Emergency responders quickly swarmed the scene, dispatching at least five ambulances. Sioux City hospitals were put on standby as six people were confirmed injured in the incident. Some victims were transported to hospitals in Sioux City, while others were taken to a medical facility in Sioux Falls. A helicopter was seen landing nearby, though officials have yet to confirm if any patients were airlifted.

As of Saturday evening, Plymouth County authorities had not released specific details regarding the conditions of those injured or the exact cause of the crash. The Iowa 511 traffic map showed the southbound lanes of Highway 75 were fully closed following the accident, with drivers rerouted through a detour.
In the wake of the crash, Remsen St. Mary’s Schools posted a message on social media asking for prayers for the students and coaches involved. The school also organized a rosary after the 4:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday to support the affected community members.
