A dramatic overnight standoff in Van Alstyne came to a tragic end early Tuesday when 28-year-old murder suspect Jomaar Lee Davis took his own life, according to law enforcement authorities.
Davis, wanted for the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Briana Casto in Carrollton, was located by police after an extensive multi-agency search. Casto had been found dead from a gunshot wound Monday at a home in the 4600 block of North Josey Lane in Carrollton, prompting detectives to secure an arrest warrant for Davis.

By around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, investigators tracked Davis’ cell phone signal to the Van Alstyne area, triggering a coordinated response from several agencies, including the Carrollton Police Department, Collin County Sheriff’s Office, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Anna Police, and Howe Police.
Crisis negotiators made multiple attempts to convince Davis to surrender peacefully. However, communication was suddenly lost. As SWAT teams closed in on his vehicle, a gunshot was heard. Officers soon discovered Davis with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Emergency personnel from the Van Alstyne Fire Department and EMS provided immediate aid before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities confirmed that no officers or civilians were injured during the tense standoff.
In a public statement, the Van Alstyne Police Department praised the joint efforts of all responding agencies, emphasizing how teamwork and rapid coordination prevented further tragedy.
“The collaboration between law enforcement, fire, and EMS ensured that a dangerous situation was contained swiftly and safely,” the department noted.
Investigators continue to piece together the chain of events that led to Briana Casto’s killing and the final confrontation with Jomaar Lee Davis, bringing an end to a deeply disturbing case that shook both the Carrollton and Van Alstyne communities.
