Moorhead, MN — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has confirmed the deaths of Nathan Heiberg, 42, and Lucas Heiberg, 41, following an officer-involved shooting on Monday night.

Authorities report that Fargo Police officers Michael Anderson, Kyle Seehusen, and Tyler Seehusen, all members of Red River Valley SWAT, were involved in the incident. The officers have been placed on critical incident leave, and the BCA stated it will not recommend charges against them.

Police responded to a domestic assault report at an apartment in the 2400 block of Third Avenue North shortly after 8:45 p.m. The female caller told officers that two men had assaulted her and that two children were inside the apartment.

According to authorities, a gun was fired as officers attempted to enter the apartment, prompting the SWAT team to be called in. Nearby apartments were evacuated as officers engaged with the suspects.

During the exchange of gunfire, Lucas Heiberg was pronounced dead at the scene, while Nathan Heiberg later died at a hospital. The woman and the two children inside the apartment were unharmed.

The BCA continues to review the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The community is processing the tragic loss as authorities release details of the incident.
