Authorities are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that claimed the life of 51-year-old Scott Langlois of New Bedford late Tuesday night on Route 24.
According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police troopers were dispatched shortly after 10 p.m. near Exit 2. Upon arrival, they found Langlois lying on a grassy area beside the highway crash barrier, while his motorcycle rested in the median several feet away. Emergency personnel rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Officials say the crash appears to have involved only Langlois and his motorcycle. Preliminary investigations show no evidence of criminal activity or foul play. Authorities temporarily closed and diverted traffic on Route 24 as crash reconstruction teams examined the scene, causing delays before the roadway reopened later that night.
Investigators from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, in coordination with the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, are reviewing roadway conditions, tire marks, mechanical evidence, and nearby surveillance footage. Witness interviews are also underway to establish a clearer picture of the events leading up to the crash. Early reports suggest Langlois may have lost control of his motorcycle while navigating the off-ramp, though factors such as speed, road debris, or lighting conditions have not been confirmed.
Authorities extended condolences to Langlois’s family, describing the accident as a tragic reminder of the risks motorcyclists face on the road. “Even experienced riders are vulnerable to sudden hazards,” a police spokesperson said. “We urge all motorists to remain alert, particularly at night when visibility is limited.”
