The Town of Wheatfield is mourning a devastating loss after a pedestrian was struck and killed on Niagara Falls Boulevard Thursday morning, October 2, 2025. The tragedy was further compounded when a driver endangered emergency responders and the public by recklessly navigating through the secured crash scene.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 7:42 a.m. to reports of a fatal collision involving a pedestrian near 2335 Niagara Falls Boulevard. Emergency crews quickly blocked off lanes, redirecting traffic to safeguard the scene and allow investigators to work safely.
During this time, authorities say a red 2010 Chevrolet drove past barricades and emergency vehicles, heading north in the southbound lane. Deputies stopped the driver, later identified as Christopher Seelbaugh, and took him into custody. Following an investigation, Seelbaugh was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree, and multiple traffic violations. He was booked into the Niagara County Correctional Facility pending arraignment, and additional charges are possible.
The initial crash victim, whose identity is being withheld until family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts from first responders. Neighbors and loved ones have described the individual as a valued member of the community, with tributes highlighting the heartbreak of such a sudden loss.
Authorities continue to investigate both the fatal pedestrian crash and Seelbaugh’s reckless actions. Investigators are reviewing traffic conditions, witness accounts, and other evidence to piece together the full scope of the events.
