A quiet Sunday afternoon in Oak Park turned tragic when 26-year-old Anthony Brooks was shot and killed by his younger brother during a domestic altercation at their family home.
According to the Village of Oak Park Police Department, officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of South Ridgeland Avenue around 1:47 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting involving siblings. When officers arrived, they found Brooks suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators revealed that the shooting stemmed from a heated dispute between Anthony and his 23-year-old brother, who both lived in the home. A relative reportedly instructed the younger brother to unload the firearm and leave it behind before leaving the residence, but moments later, the fatal shot was fired.
A nearby business employee told reporters he saw multiple police vehicles and an officer retrieving a long gun from a squad car, though he hadn’t heard the actual gunfire. The area was sealed off with crime scene tape for over six hours as detectives processed the scene.
The suspect was taken into custody without resistance and transported to the Oak Park Police Department for questioning. Officials confirmed the case remains under active investigation, with detectives interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence.
In a statement, the Village of Oak Park expressed condolences to the Brooks family and assured residents that this was an isolated domestic incident posing no ongoing threat to the community.
