Affectionately known as “Dean Mac,” McIntosh’s death leaves a profound void for students, colleagues, friends, and family who were inspired by his wisdom, kindness, and lifelong commitment to education and equity.

A Lifelong Dedication to Students
Glenn McIntosh’s career in higher education spanned decades, marked by an unwavering focus on creating opportunities for young people. A graduate of Detroit Western High School, he pursued studies at Eastern Michigan University, Central Michigan University, Wayne State University, Bowling Green State University, and Oakland University.
Before rising to senior leadership at Oakland, McIntosh served at Bowling Green State University and later as Dean of Students and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at OU. Throughout his career, he was known for mentoring countless students, encouraging them to achieve excellence while assuring them they were never alone.

Former students and colleagues described McIntosh as a tireless advocate whose warmth and guidance transformed lives. “He was a giant in everyone’s eyes who graced OU’s campus and beyond,” one mentee shared. Another close friend of more than 30 years remembered him as “one of the most exceptional creations that God put on this earth,” a man whose selflessness left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
Oakland University issued a statement honoring his contributions: “His leadership, kindness, and unwavering commitment to students shaped our campus in countless ways. Vice President McIntosh’s impact will be felt for generations, and his memory will remain a guiding light for the Oakland University community.”

He often ended conversations with his signature phrase: “I love you, and there’s nothing you can do about it.” For him, it wasn’t just a saying — it was a way of life, reflecting his unconditional care for students, colleagues, and loved ones.
McIntosh’s devotion to his family, particularly his wife Lia, was evident in every aspect of his life. Friends say his love for both his home and his campus community was at the core of who he was.
