Holmes was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted that an autopsy will be conducted later this week to confirm the precise cause of death.

A 37-year-old Mishawaka woman, who was driving one of the eastbound vehicles, was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second car, a 30-year-old Mishawaka man, was not hurt.

FACT officers continue to examine what led to the crash, including road conditions, vehicle data, and other contributing factors.

Community members have expressed sadness at the sudden loss, remembering Holmes as a kind and dependable neighbor whose presence will be missed.
