Authorities in Ottawa County have confirmed that a weekend crash in Salem Township, which claimed two lives, was the result of a murder-suicide.
The Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday identified the victims as 24-year-old Alexis Raine Pence and 23-year-old Malachi Moreno, both of Fremont. Officials have not said which individual was responsible, noting that the investigation remains ongoing.
Deputies responded around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, September 20, to the 10000 block of Oak Harbor Southeast Road after multiple 911 calls reported a single-vehicle accident. First responders found both occupants unresponsive inside the vehicle. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a hospital, where they later died.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office worked with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Ottawa County Coroner’s Office, and the Lucas County Coroner’s Office in the investigation, which later determined the case to be a murder-suicide.
Community members are mourning the loss of Alexis Pence, who family and friends remember for her bright spirit, artistic nature, and unforgettable smile. Loved ones say her memory will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
Funeral services for Alexis will take place Friday, September 26, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory in Tiffin, with visitation beginning an hour prior to the service.
