Panora, Iowa — The Panorama community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Savannah Matthias, a bright and beloved 17-year-old student at Panorama High School, who died in a car accident on Saturday, September 13, 2025. Her sudden passing has left her family, friends, classmates, and teachers devastated, as they remember a young woman whose warmth and joy touched everyone she met.

Savannah was known for her radiant smile, kind spirit, and dedication to those around her. At Panorama High, she was admired not only for her academic commitment but also for her compassion, respect, and unwavering faith. Teachers and peers described her as someone who could lift the spirits of an entire room, bringing encouragement and kindness wherever she went.
To honor Savannah’s life, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) at Panorama High School will hold a Memorial Gathering on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. The event will offer students, staff, relatives, and community members a chance to share prayers, scripture, and memories as they celebrate Savannah’s legacy and find comfort in faith.
Savannah’s death has been especially painful for her family, who are traveling from Pennsylvania and Ohio to join loved ones in Iowa for funeral services. Her grandmother spoke of the “heartbreaking reality” of receiving news no family ever wants to hear. Relatives have asked for assistance with travel expenses, including fuel, meals, and lodging, so they can gather together to honor Savannah’s memory.
Friends and neighbors have filled social media with tributes and photos, remembering Savannah as someone who made people feel valued and loved. Many have reflected on her strong Christian faith, taking solace in the belief that she is now at peace in God’s presence.
