PASCAGOULA – The Mississippi Gulf Coast is heartbroken after 26-year-old Hunter Allen Boyd Torjusen, a Springhill Medical Center ICU nurse and assistant coach for Resurrection Catholic soccer, died Thanksgiving night in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 63.
Mississippi Highway Patrol says Hunter was driving home from a family gathering around 10:45 p.m. Thursday, November 27, 2025, when his truck left the roadway and overturned near the Escatawpa River bridge. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.

At Springhill Medical Center Monday, the ICU remained draped in black ribbon. Coworkers say Hunter was the nurse everyone requested on the toughest shifts—the one who could calm the most frightened patient with a gentle joke and a hand squeeze.
“He’d work a 12-hour night shift saving lives, then drive straight to 6 a.m. soccer practice to coach middle-schoolers how to trap a ball,” said head nurse Michelle Ladnier. “He never complained, never acted tired. He just loved people that big.”
A 2022 Southern Miss nursing graduate, Hunter still wore his Golden Eagles lanyard every shift. This fall he returned to the pitch as assistant coach for the Resurrection Catholic Eagles, the same school he once played for. Players called him “Coach Hunt” and credit him for teaching them that “heart beats skill when skill doesn’t work hard.”
Friends remember a man who could spend hours building elaborate Lego sets, then hand them to his little cousins without hesitation. Who kept his boat ready for anyone who needed a day on the water. Who never missed a family crawfish boil and always saved the biggest tails for his grandparents.
Monday afternoon, the Resurrection soccer team placed Hunter’s #10 practice jersey in the center circle and observed a moment of silence before practice.
Visitation will be held today, Monday, December 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Church on the Rock in Pascagoula, with the funeral following at 1 p.m.
Burial will be at Griffin Cemetery in Moss Point.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Resurrection Catholic School athletics or to the Springhill Medical Center ICU staff morale fund—two places Hunter loved most.
“Save me a spot on the boat, brother,” his younger brother Greyson posted. “I’ll bring the music and the terrible dance moves.”
