Authorities are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on Saturday night, October 25, 2025, near the village of Elgin in the Township of Rideau Lakes, claiming the life of 43-year-old Nick Simmons of Kingston, Ontario.
According to the Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the tragic incident happened shortly after 9:00 p.m. along Highway 15, when Simmons was struck by a southbound SUV while walking near the roadway.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, but despite their efforts, Simmons was pronounced dead on site. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and was not injured, police confirmed.
The OPP East Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team, along with the Technical Collision Investigation Unit (TCI) and an OPP Collision Reconstructionist, led the investigation. A section of Highway 15 was temporarily closed for several hours as officers collected evidence and reconstructed the sequence of events before reopening the road later that night.
Investigators have not laid any charges at this time. A postmortem examination has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death, while authorities continue to analyze contributing factors such as visibility, lighting, and road conditions.
