Penfield and Monroe County are mourning the loss of 69-year-old Sharon Shearer, who tragically died Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Atlantic Avenue.
Authorities reported that the accident occurred shortly before 3:10 p.m., between Five Mile Line and Baird Roads. Shearer was driving eastbound when her vehicle veered off the south side of the road while navigating a curve. The car struck a utility pole support wire, shearing the pole, then collided with a boulder before catching fire. Emergency responders arriving on the scene found the vehicle engulfed in flames and tangled in downed power lines. Shearer, the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.

First responders worked quickly to extinguish the fire, secure the area, and manage hazards caused by the downed utility lines.
