Pittsburg State University Athletics is mourning the loss of former long-time assistant football coach Carl Roth, who passed away on Monday.
Roth dedicated nearly three decades to the Gorilla football program, serving from 1992 to 2019 under head coaches Chuck Broyles and Tim Beck. Best known as the linebackers coach, he later took on the role of Recruiting Coordinator, helping to shape the future of the program with his eye for talent and commitment to players who embodied discipline, hard work, and integrity.

During his tenure, Roth mentored 26 All-MIAA performers and six All-America players, leaving a lasting influence that went far beyond the field. Many of his former athletes credit him not only with their athletic growth but also with lessons that guided their personal lives.
Following his retirement from Pittsburg State, Roth continued coaching at St. Mary’s-Colgan High School in Pittsburg, where his dedication and wisdom further impacted the local community.
Colleagues, athletes, and community members remember him as a humble and respected leader whose passion for the game was matched only by his commitment to mentoring young men.
Pittsburg State Athletics expressed its condolences to Roth’s family, friends, and former players, emphasizing that his legacy will live on through the program, the community, and the many lives he shaped.
