ERSEY CITY, N.J. — Authorities are investigating a police-involved shooting that left one person injured early Tuesday morning along Bergen Avenue in Jersey City.
According to officials, the incident unfolded around 1 a.m. after officers responded to a disturbance that quickly escalated into an exchange of gunfire between police and an unidentified individual.

During the confrontation, the suspect was struck and later transported by emergency responders to Jersey City Medical Center. Their current condition has not yet been disclosed.
Police confirmed that no officers suffered serious injuries, though those involved were medically evaluated as a precaution. A firearm believed to have been used in the incident was recovered at the scene.
Investigators from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and Jersey City Police Department remained at the location for several hours, gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Multiple blocks along Bergen Avenue were temporarily closed off, leading to traffic delays in the surrounding area.
Residents in the neighborhood reported waking up to the sound of several gunshots followed by a heavy police presence and flashing emergency lights.
Officials have not yet released the identity of the person involved or what prompted the encounter. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said more information will be made public once the preliminary findings are complete.
