Authorities in Portland are investigating a deadly shooting that took place Monday evening in the city’s northeast area, leaving one man dead and the community shaken.
According to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), officers were dispatched to the 4500 block of Northeast 125th Place at approximately 5:36 p.m. on October 27, 2025, following reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they located a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, later identified as 39-year-old Derrik M. Rice, a resident of Portland, was rushed to a nearby hospital by emergency personnel. Despite efforts to save his life, Rice was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled his death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound.
Police have not announced any arrests or named any suspects in connection with the shooting. Investigators are now working to determine what led to the deadly encounter and whether the victim and suspect knew each other.
