Poulsbo Community Grieves After Richard and Marjorie Gaines Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide
A quiet neighborhood in unincorporated Poulsbo, Washington, has been left heartbroken following the tragic deaths of Richard Gaines and his wife, Marjorie Imbiorski-Gaines. The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the couple was found dead inside their home early Tuesday morning in what investigators believe to be an apparent murder-suicide.

Emergency crews and deputies arrived at the residence shortly before 7:00 a.m. after receiving reports of a small fire and a possible suicide. Poulsbo Fire Chief Jim Gillard said firefighters swiftly contained the flames before law enforcement took over the investigation.

Once inside, deputies discovered the bodies of Richard and Marjorie Gaines. Authorities have since secured the scene and confirmed that there is no ongoing danger to the public. “This appears to be an isolated tragedy,” said KCSO spokesperson Kevin McCarty. “Detectives are treating this as a contained incident, and there are no suspects being sought.”

Out of respect for the family and due to past issues involving theft at crime scenes, officials did not disclose the couple’s exact address. The Kitsap County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death in the coming days.

According to investigators, the couple’s son made the devastating discovery when he arrived at the home Tuesday morning and immediately called authorities.

Neighbors described the Gaines family as kind and reserved, often keeping to themselves but always warm and welcoming. “They were lovely people,” one resident said. “Marjorie loved to bake and would share treats during the holidays. It’s hard to believe something so tragic happened.”

Friends remembered Marjorie as a generous and nurturing woman who took pride in caring for others, while Richard was known as a hardworking and quiet individual who valued his family above all else. Together, the couple built a peaceful life centered on love, family, and community.

Detectives from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as the investigation remains ongoing.

“Our hearts go out to the family during this extremely difficult time,” the sheriff’s office said in a public statement.

Funeral arrangements for Richard and Marjorie Gaines will be announced at a later date. The Poulsbo community continues to rally around the grieving family, offering prayers, condolences, and heartfelt support.
