A devastating accident in Hornsby on Friday night has claimed the life of a 30-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn child after she was struck by a vehicle involved in a two-car crash. The tragic incident occurred shortly after 8 p.m. at the entrance of a car park on George Street, in Sydney’s northwest.
Emergency services responded quickly to reports of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle. Upon arriving at the scene, paramedics found the woman critically injured. Despite receiving immediate treatment and being rushed to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition, both the woman and her unborn child succumbed to their injuries shortly after.

According to police, the woman was struck after a white BMW and a silver Kia Carnival collided near the entrance of the car park. The 19-year-old driver of the BMW and the 48-year-old driver of the Kia were uninjured in the crash. Both men were taken to Hornsby Hospital for mandatory testing, and no other passengers were in either vehicle.
Authorities from Ku-ring-gai Police Area Command established a crime scene, with the Crash Investigation Unit conducting a thorough examination of the site. Detectives worked overnight to gather evidence, including reviewing nearby CCTV footage.
At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Saturday, police arrested the 19-year-old BMW driver at a residence in Wahroonga. He was taken to Hornsby Police Station, where inquiries are ongoing. While no charges have yet been announced, police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area at the time to come forward and contact Hornsby Police Station or Crime Stoppers. The community remains in shock over the tragic loss of both mother and child in what was an entirely preventable incident.
