The Kentucky State Police (KSP) are investigating a tragic three-vehicle collision that claimed the life of 82-year-old Walter F. Maguire of Somerset on Wednesday afternoon, October 8, 2025, in the Shopville community of Pulaski County.
Authorities said the crash occurred around 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of KY 80 and KY 1003. According to preliminary findings, a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado driven by Maguire was attempting to enter KY 80 from KY 1003 when it pulled into the path of oncoming traffic.

A 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 45-year-old Mathew Collett of Manchester, was traveling eastbound with two passengers when it struck Maguire’s vehicle in the left front fender. The impact forced Maguire’s pickup off the roadway before Collett’s vehicle continued forward and collided with a 2024 Chevrolet Trax operated by 30-year-old Michael Witt of Eubank, who had been stopped at the intersection waiting to turn.
Maguire suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported among the other drivers or passengers.
Toxicology tests are pending for both surviving drivers as part of standard investigative procedure.
Detective Shane Bowling is leading the ongoing investigation, assisted by KSP personnel, the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office, and the Shopville Fire Department.
The tragic incident has left the Somerset and Pulaski County communities in mourning for Walter Maguire — remembered as a kind and hardworking man whose life was taken far too soon.
