A family disagreement over the sale of a Jamaica, Queens home ended in tragedy Friday night, leaving two cousins dead in what police have confirmed was a murder-suicide.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) said officers responded to reports of gunfire at a residence on 116th Road near 155th Street shortly before midnight on October 3. Inside, they discovered Prince McFarlane, 37 — better known by his stage name YP DA YG — fatally shot. His cousin, Antoine, 41, was found upstairs with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he later died. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
Dispute Over House Sale
Investigators believe the deadly confrontation stemmed from a bitter disagreement about how proceeds from the sale of the family’s two-bedroom house would be divided. Relatives said Antoine had been handling the sale, while McFarlane had been assisting, but tensions escalated into violence.
“It had something to do with the sale of the house, something to do with the money,” their uncle, who lives in the basement, told reporters.
Hours Before Discovery
Authorities suspect Antoine may have remained inside the home for several hours after killing his cousin. McFarlane’s longtime partner, unable to reach him all day, arrived at the property around 6:30 p.m. and waited in her car until the uncle returned around 11:45 p.m. When they entered, they found McFarlane’s body near the living room.
“She screamed and started crying,” the uncle recalled. “I pulled her out of the house. Moments later, I heard a single gunshot upstairs.”
Neighbors later reported hearing what sounded like a gunshot as early as 3 p.m., though police have not confirmed the exact timeline.
Remembering YP DA YG
McFarlane, known in the Queens rap scene as YP DA YG, was celebrated for his raw lyrics and authenticity. Friends and fans have flooded social media with tributes, describing him as a gifted rapper whose music resonated deeply within the community.
“He had a voice that spoke for Queens,” one friend wrote. “He loved his family and his art. It’s devastating to lose him like this.”
Investigation Continues
Detectives from the NYPD’s 113th Precinct continue to investigate the murder-suicide. While financial disputes appear to have been at the heart of the confrontation, officials say the case remains under review.
No additional injuries were reported.
