A Tireless Advocate for Justice and Inclusion
For more than 13 years, Helen devoted themselves to Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN), serving as an organizer and leader for LGBTQ+ justice and inclusion within the church. Known for combining deep faith with unwavering advocacy, Helen brought courage, compassion, and authenticity into every aspect of their ministry.
Helen was widely admired for their ability to embrace people in all their complexity, offering friendship, encouragement, and solidarity—especially to those who often felt unseen or marginalized.
Impactful Leadership
Helen’s leadership was instrumental at the 2024 General Conference, where they served as both a delegate and co-convener of the Queer Delegate Caucus, helping to shape a more inclusive vision for the church. Beyond that, they served as Secretary for the General Board of Church & Society and contributed to the Racial Audit team of the Methodist Federation for Social Action.
Colleagues describe Helen as a gifted leader whose commitment to equity and faith-based justice made them a guiding light during times of challenge and change.
A Life of Love and Partnership
Away from their work, Helen shared more than 25 years of love and companionship with their wife, Kate, affectionately known as Mrs. Lovely. Their enduring partnership was admired by friends and family as a true reflection of love, resilience, and devotion.
Helen is also remembered with love by their mother, sister, nieces, stepmother, stepsister, and stepbrothers, who are among those feeling the deep pain of this loss.
