REGINA — The city is grieving after Anthony Marquart, a beloved husband, father of four, and one of Regina’s quiet pillars of kindness, passed away unexpectedly on November 23, 2025, at the age of 53.
Born in Red Deer, Alberta, and raised with the wide-open values of the Prairies, Anthony moved to Regina where he built a life defined not by headlines but by the countless small moments that made people feel truly seen. Whether it was showing up with a snowblower for an elderly neighbour, coaching his kids’ sports teams with endless patience, or simply listening (really listening) when someone needed to talk, Anthony had a gift for making the ordinary feel sacred.

“Anthony never raised his voice, but somehow his calm made everything feel like it was going to be okay,” said longtime friend Darren Schmidt. “You left every conversation with him feeling a little lighter, a little braver.”
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Patty Gourgaris; their children Kenneth, Mila, Vianne, and Colin; father Ken; brothers Russ (Veronica) and Curtis (Melanie); and nieces Hailey, Jillian, and Tessa. He was predeceased by his mother, Theresa, whose gentle spirit friends say lived on in her son.
A devoted family man who rarely missed a school concert or hockey game, Anthony worked in the transportation sector and was known among colleagues as the guy who always volunteered for the toughest shifts and still found time to ask about your weekend.
News of his passing has rippled across Regina’s tight-knit community. Condolence messages have flooded his online memorial page, many recalling the same thing: his booming laugh that started somewhere deep in his chest and filled entire rooms.
A funeral service celebrating Anthony’s life will be held Sunday, November 30, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue. The family welcomes flowers, stories, and shared memories, and invites everyone to wear something blue (Anthony’s favourite colour) in his honour.
In a city that can feel harsh in November, Anthony Marquart was warmth personified. Regina is colder today, but the light he left in thousands of hearts will burn for years to come.
