The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol has identified 62-year-old Susan Mae Goodenow of Reno as the victim of a tragic bicycle accident that occurred Saturday morning, October 4, 2025, along U.S. 395 Alternate near Pagni Lane in Washoe County.
Investigators report that a 1995 Subaru Legacy traveling northbound veered out of its lane into the southbound lanes, entering the designated bicycle lane. The vehicle then abruptly steered right and spun clockwise, striking two cyclists traveling along the roadway.

Susan Mae Goodenow was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second cyclist sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The Subaru driver remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with authorities.
The Northern Command Major Incident Reconstruction Team of the Nevada Highway Patrol is leading the investigation to determine the cause of the crash, examining whether factors such as impairment or driver distraction played a role.
Goodenow, a well-loved member of the Reno cycling community, is remembered for her passion for the outdoors and her warm, kindhearted nature. Friends and fellow riders have announced plans for a memorial ride in her honor in the coming days.
