Weddington, NC – The community of Weddington is mourning the loss of Michael “Mike” Verardo, a retired U.S. Army Sergeant and decorated infantryman of the 82nd Airborne Division, whose life stood as a powerful testament to courage, perseverance, and service.

Michael Verardo’s story is one of extraordinary resilience. In 2010, while deployed to Afghanistan, he was gravely wounded by an improvised explosive device (IED). The injuries he sustained required more than 120 surgeries and years of demanding rehabilitation. Despite unimaginable challenges, he refused to let his circumstances define him.

Through strength and determination, Mike embraced his “second chance at life” with a mission to uplift others.
