MEMPHIS, TN — The Rhodes College community is reeling from heartbreak following the tragic death of a female freshman student who was found unresponsive on campus early Wednesday morning in what police describe as an apparent suicide.
Authorities say the student was discovered inside a campus building at the liberal arts college located at 2000 North Parkway in Midtown Memphis. Emergency crews and campus security officers attempted CPR and other life-saving measures, but the young woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a solemn message to students and staff, Rhodes College officials confirmed the loss, describing it as a devastating blow to the tight-knit college community.
“Our hearts are broken,” the statement read. “We grieve deeply for the loss of one of our own and extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. We encourage everyone to seek support during this painful time.”
The Memphis Police Department has launched an investigation, though early findings suggest the death was self-inflicted. The student’s identity is being withheld pending notification of her family.
In response, the college has activated grief counseling services and is planning campus gatherings to provide comfort and support for students coping with the tragedy.
