CONCORD TOWNSHIP, MI – A 22-year-old Concord man is dead after a road rage confrontation escalated into a physical fight in the middle of a Jackson County roadway, only for both combatants to be struck by a pickup truck driven by a passerby who was not involved in the original dispute.
Michigan State Police say the incident unfolded just after 6:05 p.m. Friday on M-60 near North Main Street in Concord Township.

Troopers say a 22-year-old Concord man driving a Chevrolet Malibu and a 24-year-old Parma man driving a Jeep Cherokee began aggressively tailing and gesturing at each other. The two drivers eventually pulled onto the shoulder, exited their vehicles, and began fighting in the travel lanes of the highway.
While the altercation was underway, a 62-year-old man from Hanover driving a Dodge Ram 1500 eastbound on M-60 struck both men.
The impact killed the 22-year-old Concord man, who was pronounced dead at the hospital. The 24-year-old Parma man was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Dodge Ram was uninjured and remained at the scene.
Preliminary investigations show no signs that alcohol or drugs played a role for any of the three drivers involved.
“This is a tragic reminder of how quickly road rage can turn deadly—not just for those directly involved, but for everyone on the road,” said Lt. Rene Gonzalez of the Michigan State Police Jackson Post. “We urge motorists to disengage and call 911 rather than confront another driver.”
The crash remains under active investigation by MSP and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. No charges have been filed at this time, and authorities say the decision on any potential charges will come after the investigation is complete.
The name of the deceased 22-year-old is being withheld until all family members have been notified.
