The Robstown Police Department has confirmed that Tuesday’s deadly shooting of 14-year-old Shawn Sanchez is connected to a separate shooting that occurred early Sunday morning on the 700 block of West Avenue C. Chief Mike Tamez stated that the young victim in Tuesday’s attack personally knew the suspects involved in both incidents.
The shooting took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Figueroa Square Apartments on Ruben Chavez Road, near Lotspiech Elementary School. Upon arrival, officers discovered Shawn Sanchez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite emergency medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 14-year-old Shawn Sanchez, whose death has deeply impacted the local community. Robstown Police Chief Mike Tamez emphasized the tireless efforts of detectives and the Organized Crime Unit in their pursuit of those responsible. “Some of these individuals haven’t even slept since yesterday at 8 o’clock,” Tamez said. “It’s a relentless persistence to make sure that the family gets justice.”
In response to the escalating violence, Tamez directed a strong message to local parents, urging them to take a more active role in preventing violence among youth. “Parents need to get involved,” he said. “Police officers can only do so much to protect and prevent shootings. Parents have to do their jobs. We should never have these children out roaming the streets at this hour with weapons.”
While the shooting did not occur on any Robstown ISD campus, district officials have announced proactive measures to ensure the safety of students and staff. These include an increased police presence, additional counselors, enhanced access control, and continued coordination with local law enforcement. The district will adjust these measures as needed to support the school community during this difficult time.
