The Saluda County community is grieving the sudden loss of 76-year-old Shirley Fincher, who tragically died Monday morning in a two-vehicle collision along U.S. Highway 178 near Prater Road. Known for her warmth, kindness, and dedication to family and friends, Fincher’s passing has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew her.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), the crash occurred at approximately 10:25 a.m. when two vehicles traveling in opposite directions collided. Fincher, driving one of the vehicles, sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Saluda County Coroner’s Office. The other driver was transported to a nearby hospital, though their condition has not been released.

The SCHP’s Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is leading the investigation, analyzing road conditions, vehicle data, and other evidence to determine what caused the collision.
