A heartbreaking tragedy in San Antonio has led to the arrest of a 28-year-old mother after her two young children were discovered dead inside a sweltering vehicle over the weekend.

Authorities say Tiona Lasaisha Islar was taken into custody on Saturday following the deaths of her children — 6-year-old Sevani Stevenson and 3-year-old Miyani Islar — whose bodies were found inside a car near the family’s home in the Alamo Ranch area.
Deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office were called to the residence on Chancery Gate and Appleton Way around 3 p.m., after Islar dialed 911 to report finding her children unresponsive. Paramedics rushed to administer life-saving aid, but both children were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Sheriff Javier Salazar, Islar initially told investigators she had last seen Sevani and Miyani inside the home before lying down to sleep at about 10 a.m. However, detectives noted troubling inconsistencies in her account. “Something is not adding up about this case,” Salazar said.
As the investigation deepened, Islar was arrested and charged with Injury to a Child SBI/Death. She was later booked into the Bexar County Jail.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine the children’s official cause and manner of death, including how long they may have been inside the hot vehicle. Authorities have not released further details about other possible circumstances surrounding the case, and the whereabouts of the children’s father remain unclear.
Officials emphasized the deadly risks of leaving children in vehicles, noting that hot car deaths are among the leading causes of non-crash fatalities involving young children in the U.S.
The investigation is ongoing, as the community mourns the loss of Sevani Stevenson and Miyani Islar.
