School Bus and Pickup Truck Collision Shuts Down Alabama Highway 202, Injuries Reported

Oxford, AL — A crash involving a school bus and a pickup truck on Monday afternoon led to the closure of a section of Alabama Highway 202, prompting a large response from emergency crews and the implementation of safety measures for students and families.

The incident occurred at the intersection of AL Hwy 202 and Taylors Chapel Road, where the roadway was blocked for several hours as first responders worked at the scene. The Oxford Police Department advised drivers to avoid the area, as the situation disrupted traffic and required significant emergency resources.

Injuries were reported, with one student from the bus transported to Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver of the pickup truck sustained more serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Birmingham for advanced medical care. Thankfully, no other students were reported injured.

By 4:16 p.m., all remaining students on the bus were relocated to C.E. Hanna Elementary School, where parents and guardians were able to pick them up. School and law enforcement personnel were on hand to facilitate a smooth and organized reunification process.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, with police working to determine the circumstances. The road remained closed as authorities continued their work, and they urged the public to avoid the area until further notice.
