Scotch College Mourns the Tragic Loss of Student William “Will” Wood at 16

It is with profound sorrow that the family and community of Scotch College announce the untimely passing of William “Will” Wood, a cherished 16-year-old student, who died by suicide on Thursday, October 9, 2025. Will was the beloved son of Stuart and Samantha Wood and a treasured brother to Charlotte, Amelia, and Annabel. He was also deeply loved by his grandparents — Esther and Barry, and Tim and Pamon — all of whom are grappling with this devastating loss.

Will was a bright light in the lives of everyone he met. At school, he was known for his kindness, quiet strength, and sharp wit, leaving a lasting impression on both peers and teachers. Those closest to him describe Will as not only a son and brother, but also a confidant and friend, whose laughter and warmth could lift the spirits of any room. His gentle nature and deep empathy for others made him a source of comfort and joy to his family and friends alike.

In memory of Will, a service will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 1:30 pm at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, 81 Toorak Road, Toorak. All who knew him are invited to attend and support the family during this incredibly difficult time.

While his life ended far too soon, Will’s legacy will endure through the love, laughter, and compassion he shared.
