The search for four-year-old Gus Lamont, who vanished near Yunta on Saturday evening, has stretched into its fourth day as family, authorities, and the wider community cling to hope that he will be found safe.
Gus was last seen playing in the front yard of his grandparents’ remote property before disappearing without a trace. Since then, police, SES volunteers, and local residents have mounted an intensive round-the-clock search across the rugged outback terrain.

Crews have deployed helicopters, drones, and thermal imaging technology to scan vast areas from the air, while trackers, mounted units, and ground teams continue the painstaking search on foot and horseback. Local farmers and station owners have joined in, using motorbikes and four-wheel drives to cover the expansive region.
As more time passes, authorities have widened the search perimeter, concentrating on water sources, bushland, and nearby structures. Police are also urging locals to inspect sheds, tanks, and outbuildings where the child may have sought shelter.
Family and friends, who have been gathering anxiously at the property, describe Gus as an energetic and cheerful boy with a love for the outdoors. “We just want Gus home,” one relative said, as the wait for answers grows more difficult.
Investigators are also appealing to anyone who may have been travelling in the area on Saturday night and might have seen something to come forward.
