SHREVEPORT, LA — The Shreveport community is mourning the loss of Captain Victor Green, a highly respected firefighter, mentor, and leader who faithfully served the Shreveport Fire Department for three decades. Captain Green passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025, surrounded by family, colleagues, and loved ones who admired him deeply.
Joining the department on June 16, 1995, Captain Green devoted 30 years to protecting the lives and property of Shreveport residents. Known for his calm leadership and steady presence in moments of crisis, he was most recently assigned to Fire Station 21, where he played a key role in the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) program at Shreveport Regional Airport. His commitment to public safety and his team’s readiness earned him widespread respect across the department and community.

Fire Chief Clarence Reese Jr. extended heartfelt appreciation to the firefighters and medical professionals at Christus Highland Medical Center who provided exceptional care during Captain Green’s final hours. “Captain Green was more than a firefighter,” Chief Reese said. “He was a mentor, a brother, and a friend. His legacy of courage, leadership, and compassion will live on in every firefighter he inspired.”
This marks the second loss for the department in less than a month, a heartbreaking period for the entire firefighting family. Yet, amid the sorrow, Captain Green’s colleagues remember him for his unwavering dedication, infectious positivity, and the countless lives he touched over his 30-year career.
Fellow firefighters described him as a pillar of strength — someone who led by example, trained others with patience and care, and faced every call with professionalism and heart. His influence extended beyond the firehouse, where he was admired as a family man, friend, and community servant.
As Shreveport honors the memory of Captain Green, flags across the department will be flown at half-staff, and plans are underway for a memorial service to celebrate his extraordinary life and service.
Captain Victor Green’s legacy will continue to burn brightly in the hearts of those he trained, served beside, and protected.
