The Sikeston Department of Public Safety (DPS) is grieving the tragic death of Officer Henry Franklin, who was fatally shot while responding to a mutual aid call in Mississippi County on October 6, 2025.
According to authorities, Officer Franklin—an esteemed member of the Sikeston DPS Tactical Team—was assisting in the service of a warrant when an armed suspect concealed inside a residence opened fire. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by fellow officers and emergency responders, Franklin succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Officer Franklin’s passing marks a profound loss for both the department and the community he served with unwavering dedication.
Joining the Sikeston Department of Public Safety in June 2013, Franklin quickly earned respect for his professionalism, courage, and leadership. He also served as the handler for K9 Odin, playing a vital role in numerous law enforcement operations. Beyond his police service, Franklin was a U.S. Army veteran who completed two tours in Iraq, exemplifying bravery and selflessness throughout his life.
“Our department has suffered an unimaginable loss,” said Sikeston DPS Director James McMillen. “We ask that the community keep Officer Franklin’s family and our department in your prayers as we honor his legacy.”
Officer Franklin is survived by his wife, Leah, four children, mother, Sally Turner Doyle, and sister, Amy Eastman.
In tribute to his sacrifice, flags in Sikeston will fly at half-staff until the day of his funeral, as residents and colleagues come together to honor a fallen hero remembered for his courage, compassion, and lifelong service to others.
