Oakland police are investigating a shooting on the campus of Skyline High School that left one juvenile injured Wednesday afternoon. Officers responded to the scene shortly after reports of gunfire on Skyline Boulevard, where they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The juvenile was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, and authorities have confirmed that the victim is expected to survive.
During a press briefing, Oakland Police Assistant Chief James Beere reported that two suspects were detained at the scene, though their identities and their connection to the school remain unclear. Police are still working to determine whether the victim and suspects are students. Two firearms were recovered by officers at the site.

The incident prompted an immediate lockdown at Skyline High School as law enforcement secured the area. The lockdown was lifted once officers confirmed there was no ongoing threat to students or staff.
Oakland Unified School District spokesperson John Sasaki expressed relief over the outcome, noting that, despite one injury, the situation could have been much worse. “We’re grateful that the injury wasn’t more serious,” Sasaki said.
Parents were swiftly informed through automated messages, and the district has made counselors and crisis support available to assist students and staff in processing the event.
As of Wednesday evening, police continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including how the firearms were brought onto campus and what led to the incident. The school remains under increased police presence, and classes are set to resume on Thursday with additional security measures in place.
Authorities are urging anyone with information or video footage related to the shooting to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
