The Southwest High School community is deeply grieving the loss of 17-year-old Angelina Terrazas, a talented softball player, dedicated student, and beloved friend, who passed away on November 8, 2025, after a brave battle with Stage 3 ovarian cancer.
Angelina, known for her exceptional pitching skills and relentless drive, was the heart and soul of the Southwest High School Dragons Softball Team. Under her leadership, the team achieved numerous district victories, earning the respect and admiration of her coaches, teammates, and fans.

“She was a fierce competitor,” said Assistant Coach Taylor Doege, who also coached Angelina as her pitching mentor. “Her work ethic was unmatched, and her ability to inspire and challenge her teammates was incredible. She always held everyone accountable, pushing them to be their best on and off the field.”
Despite her diagnosis in early 2025, Angelina continued to be a pillar of strength and support for her team. In February, she pitched a district game where she struck out 14 batters, unaware at the time that she was facing cancer. Even as her health declined, Angelina remained an unwavering presence, attending every practice and game she could, always encouraging her teammates and cheering them on.
Teammates affectionately referred to her as the “Mother Hen,” a role she embraced with warmth, always ensuring that younger players felt cared for and supported. “She wasn’t just a player; she was a true leader,” said Doege. “Her influence extended far beyond the game. She was a friend, a mentor, and a role model to everyone who knew her.”
Before her passing, Angelina was honored by Southwest ISD as the first graduate of the Class of 2026, receiving her high school diploma. She was also awarded a full scholarship to the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky, where she had planned to continue her softball career.
Her coaches, family, and friends describe Angelina as someone who approached life with fierce determination and passion, never doing anything halfway. “She gave everything she had to the game and to life,” one coach shared. “Her legacy will live on, and the mark she left on this community will never fade.”
To honor her memory, Southwest Softball will hold a Prayer Circle on Tuesday, November 12, at 5:30 p.m. at the Southwest Softball Stadium. The event is open to the community to gather, remember, and support Angelina’s family. All proceeds from the sale of event items will benefit the Terrazas family during this difficult time.
Angelina’s spirit, dedication, and leadership will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
