SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A Springfield community is reeling after a devastating tragedy over the weekend left three people dead in what police describe as a double murder-suicide followed by arson.

According to investigators, 40-year-old Ryan Parnell fatally shot his wife, 35-year-old Jessica Parnell, and her 13-year-old daughter, Aaliyah Perkins, inside their home before setting the house on fire and taking his own life.
Neighbors reported waking to the terrifying scene as flames engulfed the home. “The fire was just enormous,” said Ruth Lennon, who lives nearby. “We couldn’t believe what was happening. It was horrifying.”
Emergency crews responded quickly but were unable to save Jessica and Aaliyah. The Springfield Police Department confirmed that both victims died from gunshot wounds before the fire was started.
Jessica and Aaliyah’s loved ones are now facing unbearable grief. In a statement, family members said:
“Our beloved Jessica Parnell and her daughter Aaliyah Perkins were tragically taken from us in an unimaginable act of violence. We ask for privacy and prayers during this painful time.”
To assist with funeral and memorial costs, relatives have launched a GoFundMe campaign titled Funeral Aid for Beloved Sister and Niece.
The Springfield Police Department continues to investigate the incident and has pledged to release more details as the case develops.
Community members have expressed shock and sorrow, with many leaving flowers and tributes near the family’s home. Counselors are also being made available to students and staff at local schools as they mourn the loss of Aaliyah, who was described as a bright and caring young girl.
