Springfield Man Killed in Lane County Motorcycle Crash After Striking Deer

Lane County authorities are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of 38-year-old Lucas Charles Thomas of Springfield early Friday morning.

Oregon State Police reported that the incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on Highway 126E near milepost 21. Thomas was riding a Suzuki GXR motorcycle eastbound when he struck a deer, causing him to lose control of the bike. The motorcycle left the roadway and traveled down an embankment.

Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash temporarily impacted traffic for about an hour while emergency responders and troopers conducted their investigation.

Oregon State Police were assisted on scene by McKenzie Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
