Statesboro Police Seek Suspect in Fatal Shooting of Deontre Mincey
Statesboro, GA – Authorities in Statesboro are actively searching for 21-year-old Khalir Nickens of Sylvania, Georgia, following the fatal shooting of 30-year-old Deontre Mincey on October 25.

According to the Statesboro Police Department (SPD), Mincey, a Portal native, was shot in the parking lot of 200 Lanier Drive, a commercial area housing a bar and smoke shop. A second man sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm and was treated at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.

Detectives faced initial challenges as no witnesses remained on the scene, but through forensic work, interviews, and search warrants, authorities were able to identify Nickens as a suspect. He has been charged with felony murder and several additional felonies and is considered armed and dangerous.

SPD is urging anyone with information on Nickens or his whereabouts to contact Senior Detective Cross at 912-764-9911.

The community is being reminded to exercise caution, as the investigation remains ongoing while authorities work to bring Nickens into custody.
