According to FWC Public Information Coordinator Arielle Callender, the vessel was traveling when it struck a sandbar and rolled over. This led to five of the eight occupants being ejected from the boat.
Rodriguez, a passenger on the boat, did not survive the accident, and her passing has been confirmed by authorities. The remaining passengers, including the operator, were injured and were transported to local hospitals in Key West and mainland Florida for medical treatment.
