ORLANDO, FL — A devastating tragedy has cast a shadow over Walt Disney World after 31-year-old Summer Equitz, a guest from Naperville, Illinois, was found dead at Disney’s Contemporary Resort on Tuesday evening, October 14.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 6:40 p.m. to the resort located on North World Drive near Magic Kingdom after receiving a report of an unresponsive guest. Upon arrival, Equitz was pronounced dead at the scene. The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed her death as a suicide caused by multiple blunt impact injuries.

Authorities have since dispelled misinformation circulating online, clarifying that Equitz was not struck by a Disney monorail, calling such reports “inaccurate.” Officials declined to provide additional details out of respect for her family and in accordance with standard procedures in suicide cases.
Equitz, described by friends and family as a lifelong Disney enthusiast, had reportedly traveled to Orlando without informing relatives. Concern grew when she stopped responding to messages, prompting concerned family members and members of Disney fan groups online to reach out to resort staff for help locating her.
The Contemporary Resort, one of Disney World’s original and most recognizable hotels, is known for its iconic A-frame design and the monorail track that runs directly through the building.
While Disney has not released an official statement regarding the incident, the tragedy has sparked an outpouring of condolences from fans and the wider Disney community.
This heartbreaking event follows other recent fatalities at major theme parks, including Disneyland in Anaheim, where a woman in her 60s died after an attraction incident, and Universal’s Epic Universe, where a 32-year-old man was killed in a roller coaster accident.
Authorities have confirmed that no foul play is suspected, and the investigation remains ongoing.
