Sydney, Australia – In February 2020, Danny Abdallah of Sydney endured a tragedy that shook the nation: three of his six children were killed when a drunk and drug-affected driver struck them and their cousin in Oatlands, western Sydney. Antony, Angelina, and Sienna Abdallah, aged 13, 12, and 8, along with their cousin Veronique Sakr, 11, died instantly, while three other children survived with injuries.

The driver, Samuel Davidson, was found to be three times over the legal alcohol limit, under the influence of drugs, and speeding when his ute mounted the footpath, causing the fatal crash. Davidson was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Yet, in a move that stunned the nation, Danny and his wife Leila Abdallah publicly forgave Davidson just days after the tragedy. Their remarkable act of grace has since inspired many across Australia.
This Sunday at 8:40 p.m., Danny’s extraordinary story will be featured on Spotlight, where he recounts both the heartbreak of losing his children and the journey of forgiveness that has defined his life. The program brings viewers inside one of Australia’s toughest prisons, showing Danny sitting face-to-face with Davidson for the first publicly recorded conversation.
Danny explained that forgiveness was essential not only for Davidson but for the healing of his own family: “I’ve still got other kids I need to raise and make sure they have the best environment at home. Revenge and anger would only hurt them further.”
Davidson, profoundly impacted by the Abdallahs’ grace, has since converted to the Maronite Catholic faith. Inspired by their story, the family founded i4give Day on February 1 each year to encourage Australians to embrace forgiveness and reconciliation.
