Peten, Guatemala – A school trip ended in tragedy on Wednesday after a 42-year-old teacher, Pedro Pacham, drowned while accompanying students on an excursion to the Mopan River near the Mopan waterfalls. Pacham, a resident of Semuy, Sayaxché, Petén, was leading the outing when the incident occurred.
According to reports, what began as a routine educational trip quickly turned into an emergency when Pacham got into difficulty in the river. Despite immediate rescue efforts, authorities were unable to save him.

The 57th Underwater Rescue Unit (Hombres Ranas) later recovered Pacham’s body from the river. Local authorities have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the drowning.
Colleagues and community members expressed deep sorrow over the loss, remembering Pacham as a dedicated educator and a valued member of the local community. Students who witnessed the incident have been offered counseling and support services in the aftermath of the tragedy.
